So should Apple not have been granted any of their trademarks for use of the word "Apple?"
Well, bear in mind they were sued (successfully, the first time around) for using that! ;)
I'm more concerned with trademark names of products rather than companies, given that each company could have dozens of products, hence there is much greater potential for contention over product trademarks than company trademarks.
Honestly, I don't have much problem where company or product trademarks are generic terms not directly associated with their respective industries, for instance Apple Computers ("Elephant Cars", "Earthquake Chocolates" etc..) The potential for name contention there isn't that great.
But when companies attempt trademark generic terms which have relevance in that specific domain - such as "pod" for a portable device for storing and carrying digital media, the likelihood for contention over names skyrockets.
I don't really have much sympathy for any company who wants to leverage familiarity/phonetic similarity with everyday words, but then in turn fights to have exclusive rights to phonetic variations of it.

I've installed it and am now part of the MR Team! YAY! The only thing is that it's not taking any processor power, or at least it doesn't appear to. I've got iStat installed and I can't see it take any of the CPU power, and I've followed the guide (it wasn't exactly difficult) and it still doesn't show it taking any power.... I don't know if that's how it supposed to be, but I'm pretty sure it's not, and I really want to contribute to the team, so if someone could help me out it would be terrific! And my User Name for Folding is KingMookMook, and I couldn't see that listed on the MR Folding Site, so it probably isn't working... I've only been doing it for a couple of hours though, so I might not have done enough to show up on the boards.

I bet my students can't wait to run products like AutoCad, Final Cut Pro, Logic, Sonar and Visual Studio, on the ipad. They'll be so excited I'm sure.
It's just a glorified web slate and note taker. By no means bad but I don't see any students where I work, or staff for that matter, rushing to get one. We may buy one or two for R&D.

That will make it the ultimate presentation tool with a huge halo effect on corporate, education and domestic markets:
1. Make presentation on Mac or PC with Keynote or Powerpoint.
2. Save the presentation to the iPhone.
3. Use the iPhone as a wireless computerless presentation remote.

I don't think any presentation features would be enought to cause any halo effect in the corporate market. Features that *could* cause a halo effect, on the other hand, are:
- Using the iPhone as high-speed wireless modem, over Bluetooth (2.0 or even a new version), or Wi-Fi (maybe can enable "Internet Sharing" on phone)
- Powerful email/messaging client to compete with Blackberry. They wouldn't really be competing with Blackberry, but they might strip away a few users that decide the email client is "good enough" and would like to have their iPod and phone in the same device...

What iPad user can't figure out how to use iTunes to sync the thing? My 65-year old mother figured out how to sync her iPod classic. How is iPad syncing any different or more complicated than what people have been doing for a decade? iPad does not require a tech genius - or 12 year old kid - to keep it working.It's not about figuring it out. It's about having a computer period. A normal person doesn't own multiple computers. He owns a computer. He might not even have bought it himself, and certainly won't maintain multiple computers (nor will the person who gifted the computer). So once the tablet is the normal person's computer, it's going to be the only one he's using. Telling him he needs a second computer just to use his primary computer is unacceptable.
Example: My mom has a computer. It was a Christmas present from me one year. But now it's old, full of crap, and needs replacing. But instead of upgrading it, I got her an iPad. It meets all her computer needs (except printing). That old clunker is in no shape to run iTunes; it's hard drive isn't even as large as the iPad's! I certainly won't be upgrading her desktop just to let her sync her iPad, nor will she when she's happy using just the iPad. She gets updates on the occasions that I visit with my MBP.
The system works well enough; her iPad is her sole computer. But it requires that I, the tech relative, keep it updated.

Thanks for stating the obvious but why would one NOT chose something that is 100% doc and docx compatible with all the Windows counterparts?
If you need to compose a grocery list or a flier for your next garage sale then iWurk is for you I guess but for the rest of us that actually need to collaborate with other people in the real world, no thanks.
To be fair the Office '11 apps aren't 100% compatible, or at least not 100% 'exact'. Their preview last year had the guy saying for Word they had printed files out and made sure they were exactly the same between Windows and Mac. Oh how I wish they had done the same with Excel! Graphs, margins, page sizes and how they all relate together STILL cause quite some changes when crossing platforms.

The future for Pages is much brighter then for Word, bit of a learning curve, but looking forward to Pages 2 (and Apple getting another $79)

There is a chance that we could still see a 3.5" screen, but with less features and a smaller case (less bezel/thinner). However that would make the 3GS (since they keep last years model as the low-end) somewhat pointless.

I will be buying an American made car at some point in the near future.
Will you consider cars made in the US, but have parent companies, and thus profits, that are overseas? Will you exclude American brands that manufacture outside of the US?
I too will be swapping out my US made foreign car for an "American" car, but anymore, I'm not sure what that means.
