Even with enormously difficult to pass legislation on healthcare and climate change topping the Obama administration�s agenda, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid believes he can still muscle through a bill to overhaul U.S. immigration policies later this year.
President Barack Obama has said he wanted immigration reform done this year, although his own spokesman acknowledged on Monday that they may only be able to begin the debate on the issue. �I can see the president�s desire for it to happen, but understanding that � currently where we sit, the math makes that more difficult than the discussion,� said White House spokesman Robert Gibbs.
But that hasn�t stopped Reid, who caught a lot of people off guard a few weeks ago when he predicted the Senate would act this year.
�I�ve said right here that we have to finish healthcare. We have to do energy before we get to immigration reform. But being third on the list is pretty good,� Reid told reporters on Tuesday. He denied that rising unemployment, expected to top 10 percent amid a deep recession, would slow reform efforts.
�What is impacting doing comprehensive immigration reform is getting floor time to do it. I think the votes are there to do it,� he said.
On Thursday, Obama will host a closed-door meeting with key lawmakers to discuss the issue and Democratic Senator Charles Schumer, chairman of the Senate Immigration Subcommittee, plans on Wednesday to outline his principles for legislation he will offer

hi,
my lawyers filed for AOS (for my wife and me) on july 2nd in NSC. still dont have any reciepts/ead/ap etc. i have no idea why. my i-140 was approved in TSC. i was hoping that i'd get the reciepts since everyone seems to be getting them!

I think LS is not needed as most of the people filed I485 because of VB fisaco. If they increase number of GC(I think it may happen some time before 2009) then LS will not be useful as most people will get gc within 1 or 2 years

I never used LS even though it was available at that time. But I don't hate who accepted this LS, I know it was legal and it�s for the company who can utilize their labor instead for waiting for approval of another labor.
I would like to say people who hate thus who used LS because they missed this or they never got chance to get LS, or they never had that much dare to pay the money and get that.
Dude nobody is "DHARMATMA" here. And don�t try to show that you are clean.
So please stop this non-sense and hating people who used LS. Just give your suggestion on post if anybody is looking for any suggestion. Otherwise just ignore it.

gcseeker, u just spoke my mind, this was exactly what was going in my mind, when i decided not to take transit visa. i just cant believe, there is another soul who thinks just the way, i thought, look at my PD, came to US in 1999, still no GC after 12 years, planning to leave back to india for good, this year..oh well, life goes on..
vishwak, dont consider my seniority by number of posts. As is I am going through so much injustice in life, having spent 12 years in this country and still waiting for GC bcos of this stupid EB3 mess, and now the germans decide to harrass me by asking for transit visa ? Not that I dont want to follow rules, but after spending 12 years waiting for GC, I am glad that I broke atleast one rule, of travelling through frankfurt to and from india without the damned transit visa. Of course I was travelling alone, and my family was not travelling , and hence I could risk it out. This does in no way prevent anybody in this forum or the world from not getting transit visa and continue to be opressed by the germans. Folks, I have just told my experience, rest is upto you if you want to get the transit visa .

Final Q, how long it took from day1 of EB2 filing to filing I140 this week ?
My PERM was filed on 30th March, approved on Aug 11th, received approval copy on 18th Aug, and I-140 to be filed this week.
There was a lot of prep work involved before filing PERM in March. My employer agreed to start the process in Oct'09 and the lawyers started the ads in early Jan.

Yes I believe my attorney did provide the educational evaluation documents. It was the same documentation used for the H1B & the PERM Certification. Any idea of what my chances are with the appeal?
did you give an education evaluation certification along with your original GC app and I-140 app? IT is very important documentation if u do not have a 4 year degree. Usually they accept 3 year degree with work exp to be considered in lieu of 4 year degree. for your case, where u do not have a 3 year bachelors also, ur education evaluation documentation needs to be extra strong and attractive. Hope this helps...

Hi folks,
We had the appt wt infopass the other day.I guess it was just like others,some kinda error and that happened opening the SR wt TSC.They said our case is preadjudicated.and said we may want to check on the case by making an appt wt the center but maybe NOT calling and opening a service request.What a waste of time n energy, all the agony we had to go through!!
NOW guys i have some other issue/question to ask u all.
After the EAD is approved do u necessarily have to be working for the same employer who sponsored for you? Ours is like future appointment.The USCIS wanted some docs from us this June re the appontment/work related.And yesterday when we asked that officer she said our case is preadjuticated as of Oct 2009.So far we have taken couple of paychecks frm the sponsoring company.But then we have our own small business also that has kept us going.And we were thinking of taking more paychecks after the GC is approved.Does that make sense to you guys? or are we at fault?

I don't know if he is gonna mess it up if I file on my own. But Senthil has valid point that he should support if there is an RFE.

Still your I 140 info does not show up. Also, my pd is of april 2006. But I -140 not approved yet, pending since june 2006. Ur new update is only giving me a good hope.

ICE do site visits to investigate employers. It happened to one of my former colleagues. What officer did was to verify that he was a genuine H1B employee. The officer visited his manager at client's place and verified his duties.
