The controllers are really needed.
IMHO:
The Atari Joystick is the best video game controller of all time.
The trackball is a must for playing games like centipede or millipede.
And playing breakout or kaboom without a paddle controller is not the same.
As mentioned above the iCade has to include a trackball.
Trackball, jog-wheel, joystick, six face buttons and a button on each side for the pinball simulators. Hopefully all this and more for the iCade revisions and imitations to come.

Question. How did you get your weather widget background to be transparent, but not the text (the symbols and temps)? When I adjust the transparency in Amnesty, the whole widget (not just the blue background) goes more transparent....
I am using a widget called 'Invisible Weather', and for the life of me i can't find where I got it from. A google search should be turning something up, but I'm not seeing it, hope that helps.

I'm a medical student so I need my money in my pocket funding my studies! :p And in the UK my study is mostly funded by the government so people are paying for the good of society.
But of course, you do realise there's a difference between wanting everyone to get a fair deal and giving money away for free? You will get compensated for your work as a lawyer, you don't need my money. I just want to see that Atebits is compensated for his work as a dev.
My logic is that people should pay a fair amount for what they get, whereas in society today people only care about the monetary cheapness of things regardless of the wider cost. Cheap foods and electricity at the expensive of the environment, cheap clothes at the expensive of child labour etc.
Well you talk about fairness, I don't think its fair that your studies are funded by the government and mine are not, even though I will be working directly for the government in the very near future. And, its not fair to me that you may very well benefit directly from my work in several ways. For example, say you come to America for a holiday, and you are mugged. It would be my job to help get the guy responsible for your mugging and to be able to put you back to your position before you were mugged, at no cost to you because you are not an American citizen and don't pay taxes. So, I feel toat you owe me money because that would be fair. I know i'm making money as an attorney, but so is Loren on the many, many other projects he has going on for him. Its only fair that we are both compensated justly for everything we do, right? Just like you would want to be compensated by me if I came to your country and needed medical help, it would be nothing out of my pocket, and that doesn't seem fair to you personally doing something without just compensation.
My point is, each of us has our own lives to support, because really when it comes down to it, no one else is giving us a free ride...well except for you and thats not really fair. Well then to educate you, in America, no one gets a free ride. We're all for ourselves here, and then we have to pay taxes up the ass for the people on welfare who mooch off of the welfare system without really doing anything. No ones gonna help me with my law school loans even though the work I am doing will benefit many, many people. The guys who created youtube didn't charge people to access the videos hosted on their site for free, or charge people each time they updated their servers and software, yet they are rolling in the dough. In America, we thrive on customer satisfaction. I personally do not feel Loren did enough with Tweetie 1 in satisfying his customers before going ahead and charging full price for an "update." And his excuse that Apple didn't provide an upgrade path is a cop out. I read his tweet on the decision; he did it because he "had the balls to do it." He should at least go back to Tweetie 1 and upgrade that as much as possible until he can't anymore. He stated that he wanted to do things to Tweetie that were impossible to do without rewriting the app from scratch. Thats fine, but you can't leave your old customers out in the cold like he did. Why not? The USA for example has only 4 million miles of roads. A car with driver + passenger + some decent equipment should be able to map say 10 miles per hour, at a cost of $50 per hour.

I did, in fact, mean using JavaScript on page load to disable the user from changing the size of the textarea, not within my browser. It's like using CSS to disable the dotted border Firefox puts around links when they are active.
Form elements, and the divs that contain them, often need either fixed widths or have widths that are proportional to their containers.
Take Google (http://www.google.com). Depending on how the layout is set up (this is just hypothetical), resizing the search box would push those three links next to it off into oblivion if they were all in a div that was fixed or proportional to the page width. It doesn't matter if Safari "dynamically redraws the page" since the div would still be calculated to be the same. Worse yet, depending on its overflow attribute, they could be pushed onto a new line.
I'd really not like to see Safari become the next IE 5. It already has its share of JavaScript bugs. This would just mean us designers would have to spend that much more time envisioning what would happen if a user resized every form element on every page and incorporating it into our layouts. This is why I hope there's a way to disable it outright.
I hope you remember the user CSS take precedence, the user can choose a minimum font size and run an extension like nonscript to firefox so by default
no javascript would run.
The Web is based in that is the reader the one that decide how a page would look if you do not like that begin to design magazines or book.
Note: the noscript funcinality is something I would like to see added to safari.

Happy with the outcome. Wished there were more mentions of other things. Not shocked about the prices of said iPhone. Was hoping for a basic phone/music device that could be affordable/usable by the rest of the carriers and not just for those who can spend money like it grows on trees.
I wish that Apple would get an indie band to perform instead of John Mayer or what ever his name is.
How about Wolf Parade, Modest Mouse, Broken Social Scene, Sleater-Kinney, Asobi Seksu...etc. Some band with more energy that appeals to the young, the independents.
IMO I don't think John Mayo is all that great of an artist. And that recent photo posted on MR does not do much to change my opinion.

If you're an accountant firm, using SAGE - then Windows is the best solution for your business. If you're a graphic design firm, Mac would be the best choice for your business - but windows would also work in the design sector.
The question of "what is better than what" is irrelevant, its more about "what do you need out of your IT?"
You also have to consider your training needs, if you suddenly shift everyone from PC to Mac or Visa Versa.
You also have to consider who provides your IT Support? Do you have internal IT staff? Do you outsource?
You may one to get in a Neutral PC and Mac consultant (who is not going to try sell you things you dont need) to come in do a proper survey.

WRONG! FCP is definitely not the industry standard. It gained a lot of traction in market share from Avid but has since regressed its gains over the last several years.I agree even though I loathe Avid and its Technical support :P
Were stuck with Avid and we do what we can without their support.
We also use FCP but presently at a lower stage in the production pipeline.
However, our RED One delivery is trickling in (worse delivery ever) and now in the process of testing a the Red Rocket in a Mac Pro loaded with FCP3.
Hope it all goes well.

I have a 2010 i5 MacbookPro bought in Jan of this year. (previous PC was stolen and had to replace it ASAP). Since then I have had to replace the magsafe adapter twice as the Pro would not charge and finally in the 1st week of April the magsafe logic board was replaced on the recommendation of the Geniuses at the Apple store. Since the replacement at least once or twice a week the OS has crashed. (OS never crashed before the magsafe board was replaced). Has anyone experienced a similar problem ? Would appreciate any advice on this issue. Thanks in advance.

- Disabled Spelling and Grammer Check
- Typing in a single page
CPU starts from 30% and stabilises around 90%. This only happens when there are equations on the page, but I'm not typing in the equations - just typing beneath them. The typing is slow and can't keep up with me. Has anyone else found this? Also, I have Word 14.1, Latest so far.

Agreed, .mac had a solid, sensible, identifiable connotation. I wasn't a mac guy at the time, but it whenever I'd see it, conveyed that Apple was providing a decent service package for it's users. "me" just seemed needlessly self-absorbed, and conveys nothing useful. "Castle" sounds like somebody in marketing trying hard to be clever.
I wish they'd simplify, combine & condense all these services, give all their iTunes and new hardware customers an account, and give at least one or two services away free to get people using it in some capacity. ...find my iPhone/iPad, or contact/cal/limited storage push syncing... But just go back to calling the whole package ".mac" again. Clean, short, clear, promotes the brand without being obnoxious.

That game list takes me back. I remember getting an Atari 5200 for Christmas and spending plenty of time playing Missle Command, Breakout, Centipede etc... Even though I moved on to Nintendo the 5200 remains one of my favorite game consoles. Wish I still had it today.

That would work--when I get a MBP (D2C). My current 'book has S video and 1/8" audio out, which was fine three years ago. I currently run component from my HD sat receiver to the plasma, optical to my HT system and HDMI from the HT to the plasma. I like Multimedia's idea of using an EyeTV DVR and a Mac Mini I have sitting in the play room. I've got DVR on my standard sets upstairs and it's quite addicting.

My wife and I were just talking about upgrading the HD receiver to a DVR but for the same price I can own the EyeTV DVR and use my Mac Mini with it.Well I guess you should check your luck with a Terk TV5 off air antennae direct connect to your Digital TV tuner to confirm you can receive decent HDTV Broadcast signals before buying the EyeTV 500.
