Hello Georgia members. Thanks for everyone who is joining the rally. I've created a googlegroup for the GA member. Please join this group.

Thanks to everyone who attended the rally. Please join the google group for Georgia. We can plan local activities, meetings etc and grow this chapter. There are so many legal immigrants living in GA but our strength was not reflected in the rally.

Hello,
I am stuck in India (along with my husband who) after leaving USA where I am living for over 5 years. I just came for 2 wks here in India to get stamping done at the Chennai Consulate. They kept my passport and said they will give visa, in next 3-4wks..Its past a month and 3 wks.. I am force to live with relatives. I can't even go to my home country without my passport. Everything I own is back in USA. How do I get back to it? I am on H4 and my husband is H1B. I am holding another country's nationality. I can't even visit my home country without my passport. Why did the Consulate kept the passports for this long? :confused:Why are we being treated this way?? Why didn't they do a security check where I was living for over 5 years? I am so frustrated being stuck and worry about my home left unattended back in the US.
Any advise? Can I contact someone to help expedite this process?
Did you contact the consulate if they already sent it? Maybe it got lost in the mail or was returned to the consulate. Also, could be background checks. In any case, you should contact, VFS or the US Consulate to get answers. I think numbers for VFS/Consulate should be available on the consulate website.

My understanding of a soft LUD is that your case was accessed for something... but since my PD/RD is current, I was wondering if others in the same boat have any recent soft LUDs ?

I am sure the idea is nice, but have you seen the immigration support polls among American citizens?
with struggling economy and jobs, less and less Americans are supporting any kind of immigration. Legal, or Illegal, they dont care. No one, I mean no one will support us in a way that can be heard by media and the people in high seats. This is our battle and we must fight it alone. Others will help only if we show green, or some kind of benefit of their own.

what about if one changes jobs on AC-21 and then gets married and later wants to file 485 for wife?
Is anything needed from the old employer? She is not getting married to your employer?:D No, nothing is needed from employer for dependent filing. He/she is your dependent - that's it. Just show that you filed I-485 and show relation between you.

Is PD porting allowed without ever working for the future employer who got I-140 approved? Is this still possible if the future employer revokes the I-140 because employee does not intend to join them?

All,
My friend works as an internal auditor within a big 4 acccounting firm. His practice is doing quite badly. As there are tons of different practices within this firm, he is thinking about transferring. But his PERM was filed for the internal audit manager position and his I-140 has alreday been approved. If he transfers to a function unrelated to internal audit within his firm (e.g. external audit, tax, fraud, etc.), would there be a problem?
Can anyone here provide some guidance or point him to the right discussion thread?
Thanks!!!

Client just called and asked for a change of status from B2 visitor to F1 student. I said, great we can help, but when does your status expire. He said, no worries I am good for 10 years!!! Been here for 4 only.
I said: No you are not, the I-94 (little white card in the passport) is what controls your status, this only good for 6 months max. I heard a loud sound of falling and silence. For those who are in the U.S. temporarily as nonimmigrants, the most important date to track is perhaps the expiration date of their I-94 arrival / departure cards. The I-94 is a small card that is usually stapled into one's passport. It is obtained in one of two ways. It can be issued by a Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officer at the port of entry upon arrival in the United States. It can also be issued by the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) when one is granted an extension or change of nonimmigrant status from within the United States.
The I-94 card reflects how long one is permitted to stay in the United States, provided s/he complies with the terms of her/his status. Occasionally, the CBP or USCIS will issue an I-94 card with an erroneous date (either issuing an approval for a longer period than is permitted by law or granting an individual less time than appropriate.) In either case, one should immediately obtain competent legal advice on the proper steps to correct the error.
One should never rely upon an erroneous grant of more time in a nonimmigrant category than was requested or than one is eligible to receive. So if you are pending change of status for 2 years, it does not mean that you are legal for 2 years.
It is important to remember that the expiration date on a visa stamp in the passport and the expiration date on the I-94 card are often not the same. The visa is an entry document, only. The time that one is actually allowed to remain in the United States after an entry could be much shorter or longer than the duration of the visa.
The appropriate amount of time is determined by the CBP at the port of entry. This is based on applicable law as well as the CBP's discretion.

Please do not scold me for deciding to donate this much small amount.. My budget supports this much only at this moment.
Rav

Hi ChainReaction,
Look into the discussions in my thread "Transferring Companies after I-140 approval" and the possibbilities are discussed clearly. In fact, I consulted a lawyer out of my own interests and posted the outcome.
Hope it helps.

Its hard to believe that she represents California... This is just adding insulst to injury...
We should investigate any 527 orgs that are against her and get their help to run advertisements which highlight her bias agaist educated people.
We have to keep stressing how anti-education, anti-hi tech she is.

There are very few private loan options that you have. If you have a co-signer who is permanent resident or a US Citizen, you have a bigger pool of options but I know of one organization "Access Group" who give out loan if your stay in US is more than 3 yrs + if you have 4 credit cards in your name..You can dig into more details by googling them.
Most of the schools in US also have a tie up with TMS (tuition management system) which let you pay your semester fees in monthly installments. You might want to check that out too. Hope this helps. Good Luck!

It doesn't matter how you get the magnification - whether by extension or by a "real" macro lens, you're going to have to deal with very thin DOF. Small apertures are about the only thing you can do.
The only other option - available only if your subject is perfectly stationary - is to put your camera on a geared focusing rail and shoot numerous frames, repositioning the camera slightly from front to back in between each image. Software is available (designed for microscopy) that will mix the sharpest parts of each frame, giving you an image that has greater DOF than possible to obtain optically in one frame due to physical principles.

Yes thats a good suggestion. We need more people than whose GC is stuck. One issue is motivating them. I was almost shocked to see the indifference of many immigrants some of them who went through the same process very recently. I came here almost 10 years ago as a student and many of my friends got GCs/citizenship (they had their own hassles but now its over). When I talk to them what is going on now they simply express surprise over how/why I didnt get it even now and forget it. But I dont feel bad to remind them again to visit this site or something else and do something (sending faxes /talking to their employers / contributing money/ whatever they can). My point is dont expect an immediate action from any, even friends especially if this does not affect them; but dont let this discourage you. Engage them in a discussion most of them already know the terminology like retrogession/140/485/labor etc remind them their own process and how difficult it was and how finally there is a systematic effort to do something about it. I am sure at least some people will respond favorably.
There is so much momentum right now; if we miss this we know the consequences.

My attorney signed my I-485 AOS/EAD/AP applications and posted them on July 2nd as he was in a hurry to apply because of July 2nd scenario. Is it ok for the attorney to sign our papers. Is anybody in the same boat as me. I am a little concerned as the USCIS FAQ says application can be rejected if signature is missing. The application reached USCIS on July 3rd.
